2014 National Workshop on Advances in Communication and Computing (WACC)

Date of Issue:- 28-03-2014
The 2014 edition of WACC will be held at Assam Engineering College, Guwahati, India during September 26 – 27, 2014. This will be the 4th of the series of workshops organised by the departments of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering and Computer Science & Engineering. The first of this kind, the 'National Symposium on High Performance Computing' was organised in the year 2012. This was renamed as WACC and was organised in the month of April, 2013 as a national-level workshop 'WACC 2013'. In October of the same year, the previously planned 'National Symposium on High Performance Computing - in Academia and Beyond' was organised in collaboration with C-DAC Pune. The idea and motive of WACC has been to promote academic, research and professional experience of experts and individuals in various fields of communication and computing. It is being organised to encourage students for innovation, and to provide a incubation platform for researchers and students to indulge in advance study and research in these areas. WACC 2014 will focus on comprehensive plenary talks by reputed academicians and researchers, tutorials by experts from academics and industries, and technical sessions for paper presentation. In addition to these, participants and students in general will have opportunity for hands-on experience on recent tools and technologies in laboratory sessions to be conducted by reputed industries.

4th National Symposium on “HPC in Academia & Beyond”

Date of Issue:- 13-09-2013
The 4th National Symposium on “HPC in Academia & Beyond” scheduled to be held at Assam Engineering College, Guwahati, Assam on October 05, 2013 in association with Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), primarily aimed at creating awareness on High Performance Computing (HPC) and its potential benefits in the Academic/Engineering segment. NORTH EAST STUDENTS GEO-CONGRESS ON ADVANCES IN GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING (NES GEO-CONGRESS 2013) 28th September, 2013

Date of Issue:- 20-08-2013
The aim of the Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS) is to endorse and uphold cooperation among engineers and scientists for the progression and dissemination of knowledge in the fields of Soil Mechanics, Foundation Engineering, Soil Dynamics, Engineering Geology, Rock Mechanics and allied fields and their practical applications. To promote interaction among geotechnical engineers of the North Eastern Region, local chapter of the Geotechnical Society “IGS Guwahati Chapter (NE)” was established in 2005. This chapter provides a common forum for academicians, research workers, designers, construction engineers, equipment manufacturers and others interested in Geotechnical activity. The aim of IGS guwahati NE chapter is to build capability at all levels including at the student level also. The IGS Guwahati Chapter (NE) proposes to give the students of Civil Engineering interested in geotechnical engineering a common platform so that they can also express and exchange their ideas. Students can submit papers on various themes related to geotechnical engineering as enclosed.

Document Freedom Day 2013

Date of Issue:- 05-04-2013
Documents can be free to everybody or locked to a particular product/ company. Free documents can be read, transmitted, edited, and transformed using various available tools. Locked documents using Closed Standards and Formats cause huge problems for people, companies, and governments, and cost society an awful lot in creativity, productivity, and efficiency. The celebration of Document Freedom Day is to raise awareness of Open Standards and Formats. General people might think that Standards and Formats should be open during transmission as well as storage. But interfaces and protocols are just as important as data storage formats. Freedom requires both aspects to be open. Every year on the last Wednesday in March the believers in Document Freedom and in fair access to communications technology teach, perform and demonstrate.
