Master of Computer Applications

The Department of Computer Applications at Assam Engineering College was formed in 1990 under the leadership of Ex-Principal Prof. A. K. Padmapati, with the approval of Ministry of Human Resource and Development. It was started with the object of promoting specialized knowledge in the field of Computer Applications. The program started under this department is Master of Computer Application (MCA), which has been designed keeping in mind the needs of the Global Information Technology Industry. In view of the world wide shortage of skilled manpower in the field of Information Technology, the Department strives to channelize talented youth of this region to this challenging and knowledge intensive field by imparting quality technical knowledge and skills in the field. Since its inception, the department has always been recognized all over India and abroad for excellence in research and teaching. The Department provides an outstanding research environment complemented by superior teaching for its students to flourish in.The Department is recognized by AICTE and it has state of the art infrastructure and computing equipment supported by Ethernet & Wireless LAN for the benefit of its Members. The annual intake for this department is thirty (30). The Department has been recognized by Gauhati University for PhD level Research work from the Session 2005-2006 Vide notification no: GU/AC/AEC/COMP. APPL/PhD. Lab/06/3478-81 Dated 03-03-06.Courses structure is up-to-date and includes courses on nascent topics to equip our students with the latest developments. The faculty aims at delivering quality education blending their rich research experience in classroom. A 42 lakh research project funded by Department of Information Technology in the Ministry of Communications & IT of the Government of India has been awarded to this Department in early 2009 to be executed in 24 months. Research areas of faculty members cover Graph Theory, Software Engineering, Computer Networks, QoS, Wireless Networks, Computer and Network Security, Theoretical Computer Science, VLSI, Mobile Communications, Data Mining and Soft Computing etc.

Syllabus

The course is designed to develop appropriate skills and impart comprehensive knowledge in the field of computer applications. It covers pure computer subjects viz., Data Structures, Algorithms, Computer Organization, Graph Theory, Object Oriented Programming and Design, Computer Graphics, Software Engineering, Formal Language and Automation Theory, Computer Networks, and many more.
